Natural Language Full-Text Search

Natural Language Search attempts to use natural language processing to understand the nature of the question and then to search and return articles that contain the answer to the question. If it works, results would have a higher relevance than results from a Boolean search. Natural search is preferable if users are going to use natural search phrases like 'Which U.S. state has the highest income tax?'.

Boolean Full-Text Search

Boolean search supports Boolean operators like the + and -. They indicate that a word is required to be present or absent, respectively, for a match to occur. For example: '+apple lemon -banana' query will show results that have 'apple' word, may have 'lemon', and do not have any 'banana'. AND and NOT operators can also be used instead of + and - respectively. Boolean search is preferable if users are familiar with search operators and use them in their search phrases. Keyword Search

Simplest search method. Finds words from search phrase using one of the search logic: Any Word (search results contain at least one word from the search phrase, no sorting by relevance is applied) , All Words (search results contain all words from the search phrase), Exact Match (search results contain the exact search phrase). Unfold the \"Layouts\" folder. You can see that there are 14 layouts used by Knowledge Base Manager Pro front-end. Layout defines placement of elements on a page. Each layout corresponds to page type: Glossary layout, BrowseCategory layout, AdvancedSearch layout, Article layout. It has whole page structure inside, thus defining the general layout.
Each layout includes blocks and snippets for greater simplicity and flexibility.
Block is a part of layout, which has its own structure and is usually shown in several places. That’s why blocks are separated from layouts. This enables us to edit block in one place, but apply changes to every single place where this block may appear. Examples of blocks are: CommentFormBlock, MenuBlock, SearchBlock, CommentsListBlock.
Snippets are short elements that usually have simple structure. They may contain text, code for image inserting, or repeatable element (for example, user comment snippet - CommentsUserListSnippet - that may be repeated in CommentsListBlock if there are several comments added to an article).
There is also a CSS styles page that allows editing of any CSS styles for the front-end.
There are four buttons activated when you open a template (layout, block, snippet, or CSS):
\"Apply\" - saves changes and apply them to the theme. If this theme is currently set as front-end theme, you will see applied changes in the front-end immediately.
\"Save\" - saves changes to a draft, but doesn't apply them to the theme. So you can edit a layout and save unfinished changes by lick on this button to continue editing in future.
\"Restore to Default\" - restores current template (not the whole theme!) to default values. This option helps greatly if you deleted some essential parts from the template and want to roll-back to default configuration.
\"Preview\" – shows a page in the front-end where current template is used, so you can see how front-end appearance changes when you edit current theme without messing with real theme that may be in use by your knowledge base visitors.
Note, that all styles of the current theme are applied to WYSIWYG editor as well as to the front-end view. So if you change current theme, appearance of your articles in WYSIWYG editor may be changed in order to have the same look and feel as they have in the front-end.
Editing of layouts and style requires knowledge of HTML and CSS, but it provides full control over your knowledge base look and feel. You can see that full html and css source of the front-end is provided and they can be customized from scratch.

There is also about hundred of customization options in the Customization > Styling and Front-end Settings module. They are arranged in a simple way mostly as checkboxes and input fields. This module provide partial customization, but it is much more easier to work with.
