KMP uses Microsoft's SQLSRV driver, which installs as a PHP extension, to connect to a MSSQL database. This guide explains how to install this driver on Windows with Apache.

Supported PHP versions:

• PHP v5.3.6+
• PHP v5.4.*

Installation

Download the SQLSRV30.EXE file from the official Microsoft website.

Double click on the downloaded file. It is a self-extracting archive. It will ask you where to extract the files. Use a temporary target folder for this, you would need only one of the extracted files.

Check the upacked files. You can see a bunch of them, though you need only one file. You should use the Tread Safe version of PHP with Apache (if you're using a package like XAMPP, your PHP version is Tread Safe). If you're using PHP v5.3.6+, you would need this file:

Or if you're using PHP v5.4+ the file would be this one:

Copy the chosen file to the PHP extensions directory. By default it is C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP v5.4\ext or similar (for the latest XAMPP versions it is C:\xampp\php\ext by default). If you're not sure, check the "extension_dir" parameter in the php.ini file.

To load the sqlsrv dirver, add the following line to the php.ini (for PHP v5.3.6+):

Also, you would need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) on the web server.

Restart Apache.

To determine whether the driver has been successfully loaded, run a script that calls phpinfo().

Search for "sqlsrv" on that page (use Ctrl-F shortcut in your browser). If sqlsrv driver is installed correctly, you should see something like this:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 Native Client must also be installed on the server on which PHP is running. To download and install SQL Server 2012 R2 Native Client now, click on the link below that matches the Windows edition on the web server:

This article explains the process of user registration KMP. You can enable registration by checking the "Allow Registration" option on the Customization > Styling and Front-end Settings > Access page.

We specify the template name for each email in parentheses. If you're planning to edit the email templates of those messages, you can find needed template by its name. You can edit them on the Administration > Interface Languages page. Simply click "Edit" against the current language and click on the "Notifications" tab then. You will find all email templates there.

Please note that each template consists of two parts: one for the subject and one for the body. E.g. "Email confirmation" template has two entries in the Interface Languages:

• Email confirmation (subject)
• Email confirmation (body)

Keep this in mind when you'll be editing the templates.

The registration workflow is different when the "Moderation Required" option is enabled or disabled.

If the "Moderation Required" option is disabled

1. User submits the registration form.
2. User gets an email with the link for confirmation of their email address ("Email confirmation" template).
3. User gets an email saying that their account has been created ("Successful registration" template).
4. Staff get a notification that the user has been registered ("New user has been registered" template).

If the "Moderation Required" option is enabled

1. User submits the registration form.
2. User gets an email with the link for confirmation of their email address ("Email confirmation" template).
3. User gets an email saying that they need to wait their account approval by Staff ("Wait for activation" template).
4. Staff get an email saying that the user account needs approval ("User approval" template).
5. User gets an email saying that their account has been approved by Staff ("Account approved" template).

Ctrl-X - Cut selected text.

Ctrl-C - Copy selected text.

Ctrl-V - Paste copied/cut text.

Ctrl-B - Make selected text bold.

Ctrl-I - Make selected text italic.

Ctrl-U - Underline selected text.

Shift-Enter - Make a line break (instead of a new paragraph, which is created when you press Enter) (Windows) 

Ctrl+Return - The same as above, but for Mac.

Esc - close article editor.

Go to the Users & Groups > All Users page.

Locate the user and click the "Edit" button against him to edit his account.

Edit the desired fields and click "Save & Close" to save changes.

There are several fields that you must fill in order to create a user. They are marked with *

Fill those fields first.

Then click the "Save" button.

You can now change additional user details on the "Profile" tab and his language, date and time format on the "Preference" tab.

Then go to the "Member of" tab to assign the user to a group.

If you need to create a group first (e.g. you do not have any groups yet), you can do that by clicking "Create a Group" button. User will be assigned to that group automatically when you finish creating it.

To assign user to an existing group, select the type - Staff or Client first

Then select a group from the list on the right

If there are more than 24 groups of that type, you would need to type a part of a group name to search for a desired group.

Then click "Add". You will see that the user has been assigned to a group and can now login to the system.

Now you can click the "Send Login Info" button. It will send an email to the user with their login details and a link to the knowledge base.

The best way to troubleshoot what caused it is to enable the error log and try to reproduce the issue.

Sometimes though the log wouldn't help. It may happen if the error happened in your browser, rather than on the server, or the error was so unexpected that PHP was not able even to write it down.

This article contains solutions to all errors that do not produce any records in the log.

If You're Using PHP v5.3.9+

PHP v5.3.9 introduced a new setting max_input_vars, which is set to 1000 by default. This is less than required by KMP, so you may see the "Connection Lost" message occasionally.

To check if is it issue you're having, go to the Articles > Articles & Categories page in the KMP admin area and press F5 on your keyboard. If you get "Connection Lost", you can be pretty sure that you need to fix this setting.

If you're using PHP v5.3.9 or higher (and under certain circumstances it may occur on PHP v5.3.6+ as well), you can be 100% sure that you need to do this:

1. Open the php.ini file (PHP configuration file)

2. Find the "max_input_vars" setting and set it to 2000:

If you do not see this setting, feel free to add it and the end of the file.

3. Save php.ini.

4.  Restart the web server (just restart IIS or Apache; there is no need to restart the operation system).

Those "sess" files are PHP session files. Session are created by PHP each time someone visits your website. They have certain lifespan and must be cleaned up automatically by PHP garbage collector (GC).

If that doesn't happen, then possibly PHP is not configured properly or PHP doesn't have sufficient permissions to delete outdated session files.

Here are the recommended settings for php.ini that allow GC to recycle old session files:

Also we recommend to change upload_tmp_dir and session.save_path parameters in php.ini as well:

Please note, that in these examples we assume that PHP is located in the C:\PHP\ folder. If it is located in a different directory, you should specify the path to it instead of "C:\PHP\". Make sure that you specify real paths (create the "upload" and "session" folders if they do not exist yet) and make sure that the "Users" group has full permissions to it (including "Delete" and "Delete Files and Subfolders" permissions). To see that: Right-click on the folder -> Properties > Permissions > Advanced > Effective Permissions. There you need to click "Select" and then select "Users" group from the server. It will show the effective permissions for that group.

Restart IIS after changing php.ini.

You can delete all current session files. It won't do any harm - all users will just need to re-login to the system.

Then after completing the steps above you can watch how those "sess" files are created. The number of files might grow to maybe a hundred or several hundreds - it depend on how many people uses your KB - but at some point it will stop growing and all old session files will be recycled shortly after expiration.
