                                    <link>http://www.web-site-scripts.com/knowledge-base/article/AA-00751</link>
                                    <description><![CDATA[<p>KMP sends different types of emails, such as:</p><p></p><ul><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;">notifications for new and updated articles</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;">notifications for new comments</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;">new questions</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;">email with user login details</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;">emails sent when user registers in the knowledge base</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;">test email</span></li></ul><div><p>Mostly these emails are sent automatically. Some of them are sent when a staff user clicks a certain button.</p><p>You can set a return email and name for all those emails. It will be displayed in the "From" header. Commonly a no-reply email is used here.</p><p><img src="http://www.web-site-scripts.com/knowledge-base/admin/media_store/2/AA-00751/mazio.png" style="border-width: 0px;" title="" alt="" border="0"><br></p><p>Please do not leave these fields empty, as it may prevent emails from sending on some server configurations.</p><h2>Questions Submitted via Ask a Question form</h2><p>There is a setting, which defines the return email for emails with questions sent via Ask a Question form. There are two options:</p><p></p><ul><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;"><b>Question Submitter</b> - the email of the person who submitted the question will be used as the return email.</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 18.1875px;"><b>"No-reply" email</b> - the setting for automated emails described previously will apply. The email of the person who submitted the question will be added to the Reply-To header of the email. This means that when you reply to that email, you will see the submitter's email in the "To" header so unless you change that, you will still be replying to the author of the question.</span></li></ul><p></p><p><img src="http://www.web-site-scripts.com/knowledge-base/admin/media_store/2/AA-00751/ask-question.png" style="border-width: 0px;" title="" alt="" border="0"><br></p><p>These settings have been added because at some circumstances it is required if the return email matches the email of the question author. That's the case if you're forwarding questions to a ticketing system and it needs that to detect the author. On the other hand some mail servers do not like when a third-party email is being used as return email and may block it or move to the spam folder. In that case it is recommended to switch to the "No-reply email" option.</p></div><p></p>]]></description>

<p>KMP uses Microsoft's SQLSRV driver, which installs as a PHP extension, to connect to a MSSQL database. This guide explains how to install this driver on Windows with Apache.</p>
<h2>Supported PHP versions:</h2>
<ul style="list-style-type: none; "><li><span style="line-height: 16px; ">PHP v5.3.6+</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 16px; ">PHP v5.4.*</span></li></ul><h2><span style="color: rgb(63, 113, 173); line-height: normal;">Installation</span></h2>
<p></p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; "></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 18px; ">Download the</span>&nbsp;<span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "><b>SQLSRV30.EXE</b> file from</span>&nbsp;<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&amp;id=20098" target="_blank" style="line-height: 18px; ">the official Microsoft website</a>.</p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; ">Double click on the downloaded file. It is a self-extracting archive. It will ask you where to extract the files. Use a temporary target folder for this, you would need only one of the extracted files.</p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; ">Check the upacked files. You can see a bunch of them, though you need only one file. You should use the Tread Safe version of PHP with Apache (if you're using a package like XAMPP, your PHP version is Tread Safe). If you're using PHP v5.3.6+, you would need this file:</p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; "></p>
<div class="preformatted"><div class="preformattedContent" style="font-size: 12px; ">php_sqlsrv_53_ts.dll<br></div></div>
<p style="line-height: 18px; ">Or if you're using PHP v5.4+ the file would be this one:</p><p style="line-height: 18px; "></p><div class="preformatted">
<div class="preformattedContent">
php_sqlsrv_54_ts.dll</div></div><p></p><p style="line-height: 18px; ">Copy the chosen file to the PHP extensions directory. By default it is C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP v5.4\ext or similar (for the latest XAMPP versions it is C:\xampp\php\ext by default). If you're not sure, check the "extension_dir" parameter in the php.ini file.</p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; "></p>

<p style="line-height: 18px; ">To load the sqlsrv dirver, add the following line to the php.ini (for PHP v5.3.6+):</p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; "></p>
<div class="preformatted"><div class="preformattedContent" style="font-size: 12px; ">extension=php_sqlsrv_53_ts.dll</div></div>
<p style="line-height: 18px; ">Or</p><p style="line-height: 18px; "></p><div class="preformatted">
<div class="preformattedContent">
extension=php_sqlsrv_54_ts.dll</div>
</div>
<p>for PHP v5.4+.</p><p></p><p style="line-height: 18px; ">Also, you would need to install&nbsp;<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328" target="">Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)</a>&nbsp;on the web server.</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 18px; ">Restart Apache.</span></p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; ">To determine whether the driver has been successfully loaded,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.web-site-scripts.com/knowledge-base/article/AA-00616/0" target="" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-image: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; outline-color: initial; border-style: initial; ">run a script that calls phpinfo()</a>.</p>
<p style="line-height: 18px; ">Search for "sqlsrv" on that page (use Ctrl-F shortcut in your browser). If sqlsrv driver is installed correctly, you should see something like this:</p>

<p style="line-height: 18px; ">Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 Native Client must also be installed on the server on which PHP is running. To download and install SQL Server 2012 R2 Native Client now, click on the link below that matches the Windows edition on the web server:</p>

                                    <description><![CDATA[<p>Usually "Connection Lost" message is shown if an error occurred. Mostly the error is related to the server configuration (IIS, PHP, Apache, etc.).</p><p><img src="http://www.web-site-scripts.com/knowledge-base/admin/media_store/2/AA-00742/connection-lost.PNG" style="border-width: 0px; " title="" alt="" border="0"><br></p><p>The best way to troubleshoot what caused it is to enable the <a href="ARTICLE_URL#532##AA-00571#" target="">error log and try to reproduce the issue</a>.</p><p>Sometimes though the log wouldn't help. It may happen if the error happened in your browser, rather than on the server, or the error was so&nbsp;unexpected&nbsp;that PHP was not able even to write it down.</p><p>This article contains solutions to all errors that do not produce any records in the log.</p><h2>If You're Using PHP v5.3.9+</h2><p>PHP v5.3.9 introduced a new setting&nbsp;max_input_vars, which is set to 1000 by default. This is less than required by KMP, so you may see the "Connection Lost" message occasionally.</p><p>To check if is it issue you're having, go to the Articles &gt; Articles &amp; Categories page in the KMP admin area and press F5 on your keyboard. If you get "Connection Lost", you can be pretty sure that you need to fix this setting.</p><p>If you're using PHP v5.3.9 or higher (and under certain circumstances it may occur on PHP v5.3.6+ as well), you can be 100% sure that you need to do this:</p><p>1. Open the php.ini file (PHP configuration file)</p><p>2. Find the "max_input_vars" setting and set it to 2000:</p><p></p><div class="preformatted">
<div class="preformattedContent">
max_input_vars = 2000</div>
</div>
<p>If you do not see this setting, feel free to add it and the end of the file.</p><p>3. Save php.ini.</p><p>4. &nbsp;Restart the web server (just restart IIS or Apache; there is no need to restart the operation system).</p>This issue shouldn't happen again.<p></p>]]></description>

                        <title>Temp folder on my KMP webserver continually fills up with "sess" files from KMP</title>
                                    <link>http://www.web-site-scripts.com/knowledge-base/article/AA-00741</link>
                                    <description><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Those "sess" files are PHP session files. Session are created by PHP each time someone visits your website. They have certain lifespan and must be cleaned up automatically by PHP garbage collector (GC).</p><p>If that doesn't happen, then possibly PHP is not configured properly or PHP doesn't have sufficient permissions to delete outdated session files.</p><p>Here are the recommended settings for php.ini that allow GC to recycle old session files:</p><p></p><div class="preformatted">
<div class="preformattedContent"><div class="preformattedContent">session.gc_divisor 100</div><div class="preformattedContent">session.gc_maxlifetime 1440</div><div class="preformattedContent">session.gc_probability 1</div></div>
</div>
<p>Also we recommend to change upload_tmp_dir and session.save_path parameters in php.ini as well:</p><p></p><p></p><div class="preformatted">
<div class="preformattedContent"><div class="preformattedContent">upload_tmp_dir = "<span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 0);">C:\PHP\</span>upload"</div><div class="preformattedContent">session.save_path = "<span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 0);">C:\PHP\</span>session"</div></div>
</div>
<p><b>Please note</b>, that in these examples we assume that PHP is located in the C:\PHP\ folder. If it is located in a different directory, you should specify the path to it instead of "C:\PHP\".&nbsp;Make sure that you specify real paths (create the "upload" and "session" folders if they do not exist yet) and make sure that&nbsp;the "Users" group has full permissions to it (including "Delete" and "Delete Files and Subfolders" permissions). To see that: Right-click on the folder -&gt; Properties &gt; Permissions &gt; Advanced &gt; Effective Permissions. There you need to click "Select" and then select "Users" group from the server. It will show the effective permissions for that group.</p><p></p><p><img src="http://www.web-site-scripts.com/knowledge-base/admin/media_store/2/AA-00741/permissions.png" style="border-width: 0px; " title="" alt="" border="0"><br></p><p>Restart IIS after changing php.ini.</p><p></p><p>You can delete all current session files. It won't do any harm - all users will just need to re-login to the system.</p><p>Then after completing the steps above you can watch how those "sess" files are created. The number of files might grow to maybe a hundred or several hundreds - it depend on how many people uses your KB - but at some point it will stop growing and all old session files will be recycled shortly after expiration.</p><p></p><p></p>]]></description>
